Welcome to my Romance Trope Bracket Tournament. Once a month, I’m going to post a new matchup.
Comment with YOUR vote for which trope YOU prefer to read.
Then visit the tropes below to see my book recommendations for each trope.
Opposites Attract
The hero and heroine, who are opposites in temperament, personality, or other characteristics, end up falling for one another despite those differences.
Here are four of my favorite opposites-attract stories!

A Lady’s Guide to Marvels and Misadventure by Angela Bell

Beyond These War Torn Lands by Cynthia Roemer

Christmas at Whitefriars by Elizabeth Camden

The Convicts Courtship by KyLee Woodley
Anonymous Love & Secret Admirer
Involves characters who fall in love without knowing each other’s true identities, or a character who has romantic feelings for another person but keeps their identity hidden, often expressing their affection through anonymous gifts or letters.
Here are three of my favorite anonymous love / secret admirer stories.

Letters for Phoebe by Sally Britton

A Secret Correspondence by Kasey Stockton

An Agreeable Alliance by Kasey Stockton

My favorite trope enemies to lovers
That is one of my favorites too!
My vote this month is opposites attract. It is not my overall favorite but preferred over the anonymous love/secret admirer.
Hopefully we’ll hit your favorite in the coming months!
Anonymous Love / Secret Admirer
I can’t wait to write the story that’s been simmering in my head for years, which is a Secret Admirer/Anonymous Love Christmas story. Now just to figure out when God wants that one actually written.
It’s completely impossible for contemporary books, but I just love marriage of convenience!
Did you see that Sarah Monzon’s upcoming one is a contemporary marriage of convenience? I can’t wait to see how she pulls that off.
I enjoy variety, so opposites attract would be my choice.
My hubby and I fall into this category. He came from a broken, neglected, abusive home and I came from a loving home like Leave it to Beaver. We met my last semester of college as coworkers. He was determined to give up looking for a Christian girl (because they “mercy dated” guys) and I had given up on guys in my state as they didn’t know how to “define the relationship” and just hung around. 😂
Our marriage has not been perfect, but through patience, grace (modeled by our heavenly Father), commitment to Jesus and determination we’ve celebrated 23 years!
What a beautiful testimony of that working, and congratulations on 23 years!
What a fun idea! My vote for August is Opposites Attract.
Thanks! I was hoping y’all would think it’s fun!
Marriage of convenience
Those are so fun!
Nothing better then a good enemies to lovers. Im reading “A most perculiar circumstance” from Jen Turano right now. Big recommendation
Oh! That one is so good!
Opposites Attract
That is a fun trope to see how people balance each other out.
I prefer Opposites Attract over Secret Admirer
That is a fun one to read. I like seeing how people can balance each other out.
My absolute favorite is Enemies-to-lovers, but for these two, Opposites Attract has to win!
I love enemies-to-lovers as well!
Opposites attract is my vote
It’d definitely a favorite.
Hard to choose one. Enemies to Lovers and Marriage of Convenience
Opposites Attract is my choice.
It’s a fan favorite for sure.
Both of those are fun, and if they combined in the same book, extra fun!
Such a fun idea! I have recently started really to love fake relationship. Second chance is my favorite though!
I’m glad you think it’s fun! It’s hit or miss for me on Fake Relationship, but I do love a good second chance!
My favorite is opposites attract.
Definitely a favorite!
Opposites Attract
Definitely a favorite!
Anonymous love/Secret admirer.
Those are so fun. Sort of makes me think of “You’ve Got Mail” in some ways.
Definitely Opposites Attract. They do. Anonymous is too scary for a romance. Not for a suspense, lol
LOL
Opposites Attract
That is the overwhelming favorite for sure!
Hi, I love the sound of Secret Admirer.
I’ve enjoyed the few stories I’ve read with that.
Opposites Attract 🙂
It’s a fun one!
I like both but I’m leaning towards opposites attract. That said, I just read Sarah Monzon’s “Hearts in Circulation,” which isn’t about anonymous admirers, but it is about two people who fall in love as they write letters to each other. I’m not normally a rom-com person, but I’ve really enjoyed both books in this series.
That series really has been a great one! I can’t wait to read the third book.
Opposites attract would be my normal response. The reason I chose this trope over secret admirer is because that can sound a little but creepy sometimes. I’ve had a stalker before and so I’m voting for opposites attract! ♥️♥️
I can understand where it can be creepy! And I’m so sorry you had to deal with a stalker.
I think Opposites Attract is my favorite trope. It involves expanding your thinking to understand an entirely different kind of person.
Some of the beauty in those stories is that they either find a new or deeper appreciation for those unique differences, or they find they have more in common than what appeared on the surface or at first glance. I’m reading a clean fiction audiobook right now that does both of these quite well; where she is a self-proclaimed science geek and he is worldly and cool “ladies man.”
Betting on the Best Friend’s Brother, Betting on Love book 2, by Melanie Jacobson. (I also enjoyed book 1.)
OH! Good to know. I’ll have to check that recommendation out. Thanks!
Finished it! It was clever and very enjoyable!
I just started bk 3, Betting on the Brainiac, and it appears to be a bit of opposites attract, as well. 🙂
The series revolves around 4 post-college aged bff female roomates. One bets each of the others that she can find them true love in a certain time period, in exchange for something of theirs that she wants (reserved pkg spot, master suite w/private bath, deluxe bed). So far they are each quite creative & clever.
Second chance
I went too far ahead. I meant opposites attract.
LOL! Got you!
Anonymous Love/Secret Admirer…?
Question marke because you’re not sure what it is, or if you’re not sure that’s what you would vote for?
I enjoy both, but I’ll put my vote to Anonymous Love & Secret Admirer. 🙂
I love them when they’re well done!
Secret Admirer 😊
That is a fun trope!
